De Pastory is located in the heart of Grote-Brogel. It is highly likely that the world-renowned painter Pieter Brueghel was born in this village. In the various art books where his works can be admired, we read: "Grote Brogel is the only village called Brueghel not far from Breda". In those days, Bree, the neighbouring city, was called Breda. Pieter Brueghel's presumed place of birth, "het Ooievaarsnest" (the stork's nest), is at a distance of 1 km from De Pastory.
Grote-Brogel is a borough of the city of Peer (www.peer.be). In the Bruegel city you can go shopping to your heart's desire and have a great time in the various dining options and drinking establishments. Peer also has many tourist attractions. Center Parcs Erperheide, Snow Valley and Breugelhoeve are just a few of the options. In Breugelhoeve you can enjoy horsemanship in all its facets, as well as learn a lot about the countryside and agriculture. Just before the summer of 2016, an outdoor playground, a vegetable garden and a petting zoo were added here as well. Tip: Peer is probably the place of birth of Pieter Brueghel. It is therefore possible to visit the permanent museum in Peer with all his paintings (replicas). De Pastory is a bicycle-friendly place to stay and is surrounded by many cycling, hiking and equestrian trails. It is also the ideal starting point to enter the renowned cycle node network. Tip: Recently you can also cycle through the Trees in Pijnven in Eksel. After barely 15 kilometers of cycling from our location, you reach this star attraction of Tourism Limburg! More info can be found here: www.bosland.be/ontdek-bosland/fietsen/fietsen-door-de-bomen/83/. |
